This is the before-lettering version of ChÈret’s charming poster for Les Fantoches, a puppet-show extravaganza staged at the theater of the MusÈe Grevin, a frequent ChÈret client–in fact, the design was so eye-catching that it was also used to announce a FÍte des Artistes at the venue (see PAI-XV, 222). Some versions of the image show the printer’s name, while others, such as this, have no text at all. With text or word-free, ChÈret’s fine sense of composition and great lithographic skill shine.
