c. 1770, American-made Revolutionary Period Cartridge Box and Waistbelt, Very Fine. With the original waist belt and typical crudely made American double-tongued roller buckle. Wood block insert for musket sized cartridges. The box and belt are in remarkably good shape for their age. Brown leather construction. Front flap has the initials “MD” inscribed in period script. Oral history (from the consignor) attributes this box to the patriot Moses Dawes. Incised decoration also decorates the front flap. Typical period latch attachment for the front flap. An important box in excellent condition, with a four original paper wads (cartridges). A fabulous item for the advanced collector.
