The pert sweet-faced waitress alone is enough to convince us of the merits of the beverage, and ChÈret appears to be aware of it, as he leaves out all background other than shaded blue. This particular variant, however, does mention the fact that their product was good enough to merit a jury seat at the 1900 World’s Fair. The client was a company started in 1863 by FrÈdÈric Mugnier, who prepared a potion from a wine base flavored with blackberries and cherries and started selling it as an aperitif. At the time this poster was prepared, Mugnier had one of the largest distilleries in Dijon.
