Against the silhouette of the red windmill (“moulin rouge”), an alluring dancer beckons us to join her. This was ChÈret’s second poster for the famous Paris music hall; the first was for its opening in 1889 (see No. 310). The newly-arrived and much-celebrated “Paris CanCan” is touted in this later image.
