Lot 308: 1776 Book on British Colonies
American Revolution
Superb Revolutionary War Era Account of “All the British Colonies in North-America”

1776, “A CONCISE HISTORICAL ACCOUNT OF ALL THE BRITISH COLONIES IN NORTH-AMERICA,” Printed for Caleb Jenkin, Dublin, Fine.
Hardbound, contemporary calf, 6.75” x 4.25,” 229 pages, with a folding map: “100 Miles Round Boston.” Front cover is separated, and spine is separated at the midpoint of the book. Nevertheless, the print is sharp and clear, and the pages are toned but very clean. And the content is first-rate! The subtitle of this book indicates historical accounts to comprehend the “Rise, Progress, and Modern State; Particularly of the Massachusetts-Bay (The Seat of the present Civil War)...” A table at the end of the book, describing the colonies in North America is torn and missing 3/4’s of its information, but the key material of the rest of the book is intact: descriptions of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, the Salem witch trials, and the controversy over the American colonies, for example, are superb! The map is toned and worn, but also a prize. [Paul Wein.] Howes W227.
