This is one of two posters for the opening season of the new Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. It advertises the opening of February 19, 1967: Mozart’s “Magic Flute” with sets and costumes by Chagall. Like its companion poster (see PAI-XXIX, 280), it borrows a detail from “The Triumph of Music,” one of the two large decorations by Chagall that flank the entrance to the opera house.
