LESLIE CARR
291. Wimereux. 1929.
25 1/4 x 40 1/4 in./64 x 102.2 cm
Imp. McCorquodale, London
Cond B/Slight tears and stains at paper edges; grommets in corners; image excellent.
One of many British rail posters created by Carr, this beaschside view of the cross-Channel French resort revels in lively colors and the trappings of vacation intemperance in the service of the Southern Railway. Though known for its golfing and tennis–not to mention its casino–Carr focuses on the watery delights of Wimereux, most inventively adding a bit of sea spray to the design by way of the bather’s frothy-blue wrap.
