Manuscript Letter Signed, 'Jon;th Trumbull' on fine-laid paper, November 22, [no year], Lebanon, 8' x 7.5,' one page, About Fine. Addressed to Mr. Thomas Shaw, a merchant in New London: '...I approve your sending the Schuyler -- and enclose an order to Captain Smith of the Spy to prepare and follow him immediately -- she may probably be chiefly manned from the troops at Hannuk....' Trumbull (1710-1785), a merchant and governor of Connecticut, was an intimate friend of George Washington (who referred to Trumbull as 'Brother Jonathan' because of his assistance in supplying the Continental Army). Two areas of paper loss, one to the left blank edge, the other in the final line of text, otherwise fine. Strong, clear signature.
