<b>November 11, 1729 Broadside, Massachusetts Bay Apportions Taxes.</b>
Partly-printed Broadside, Issued and Signed by Jeremiah Allen, “Treasurer and Receiver General for His Majesties said Province,” 12.25” x 7.5”, Choice Fine. Headed by the British coat of arms, this document is addressed to Benjamin Kingsly of Salisbury, as Constable or Collector, requiring him “to Collect all and every the Sums of Money mentioned in the List or Lists of the said Tax or Assesment of your Town... Amounting in the whole to the Sum of Sixty Six pounds Sixteen shillings & Eight pence.” This amount is the town of Salisbury’s part of the tax which was apportioned to the colony of Massachusetts Bay in 1728, amounting to Eight Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty Pounds, “and also for Apportioning & Assessing a further Tax of Four Thousand Six Hundred Forty-three Pounds Sixteen Shillings, paid the Representatives, Anno 1728.” Light toning and foxing; a few tiny pinholes at folds, and one small archival repair on verso. Examples from this early period are quite scarce.
