FIRMIN BOUISSET (1859-1925)
259. Chocolat Poulain. 1896.
35 3/4 x 50 1/4 in./90.7 x 127.5 cm
Affiches Camis, Paris
Cond B+/Restored tears, largely near bottom edge.
No stranger to advertising sweet treats, Bouisset sets forth this rather peculiar lad for Poulain chocolates. Clearly, someone’s been caught with their hand in the goody box when they should have been nestled snug in their beds–no one civilized, to my knowledge, ever slept with their boots laced up! And the boy clearly has to be all hopped up on cocoa and sugar to have knocked over the stool on his way to chocolaty climax. But that most certainly doesn’t look like remorse on our candy gobbler’s mug–more like a painful look of anticipation over his next Poulain heist.
