1949 marked Josephine’s triumphant postwar return to the Folies-BergËre in "FÈeries et Follies,” a revue that heralded a more mature–yet no less vivacious–Baker to a Paris still staggering from World War II. The previously demi-nude performer took to the stage in no less than thirty costumes, playing a variety of women throughout history, including eve (sans fig leaf, but in leopard skin) and Mary, Queen of Scots (in an opulently flowing white gown). In this Noel promotion for her recordings on Pacific Records during this period, we see a more mature Josephine Baker, in a demure, yet enticing lace collar and delicious drop earrings. An impressive portrait, with photo credit given to Harcourt.
