Autograph Free Frank by Daniel Webster, posted from his Marshfield estate, south of Boston, MA, November 5 (c. 1846), 2.75” x 4.75” folded address leaf, mounted on display sheet, 11.5” x 10,” Very Fine. The only postal mark is a scribbled red cross on the frank. Lightly toned paper with minor staining. Webster was elected to Congress from New Hampshire in 1812 and 1814 as a Federalist. In 1816 he moved to Boston, and served in the House from 1823-27, and as senator from 1827-1841. He was secretary of state for William Henry Harrison and John Tyler (1841-43), returned to the Senate (1845-50), and was secretary of state again in 1850 to Millard Fillmore.
