Autographs
1915 Baseball Player Gets Released For $300!

COL. JACOB RUPPERT, New York Brewery Owner, Congressman, and Former Owner of the New York Yankee.
Partly Printed Document Signed, 'Jacob Ruppert, Pres.' on a 'Uniform Agreement For Transfer of a Player to or by a Major League Club', 2 pages, August 25, 1915, 14' x 8.5,' Choice Extremely Fine. This wonderful, early baseball document records the release of player Edward Sweeney from the Richmond Exhibition Company to the American League Base Ball Club of New York. Normal folds, some light age toning, otherwise in excellent condition. In 1915, Ruppert bought into the Yankees for a little under $500,000. A mere seven years later, he paid $1.5 million to buy out his partner after the team clinched its first American League championship. In this instance, the release of Sweeney cost Ruppert a mere $300 (imagine the cost of such a release today).
