<b>THOMAS TRUXTUN, American Revolutionary Naval Hero, One of the First Six Captains in the United States Navy. </b>
Autograph Letter Signed, “Thomas Truxtun” at the end of a 2-1/2 page letter on fine, laid, watermarked paper, August 27, 1789, Philadelphia, [PA], 9” x 7.25,” Very Fine. Formerly mounted along the left edge of the back pages, with some mounting remnants still in evidence and with some minor varmint damage at the fold intersections on the far left edge, affecting only three or four words of text. Truxtun writes to his partner, William Constable, discussing the lucrative China trade and mentioning the involvement of signer Robert Morris. In part
“...with respect to the plan of business which I entered into with Mr. Morris, and in which he made your house concerned, I am convinced it is by far the best scheme [sic]...for introducing a profitable commerce between this country and the trading part of India & China...The [ship] Count De Artois has been badly used...I shall use all the skill I possess to keep [expenses] as low as possible...”
