Though sophistication is not one of the attributes typically associated with the contemporary smoker, that clearly wasn’t the case in this advertisement for Old Gold cigarettes. Whether out for a spin in the country or killing time between set points, the smooth tobacco satisfaction of Old Gold comes through every time. Even though the woman in the background is kept decorously smoke-free, it’s tastefully implied that she prefers the company of an Old Gold man. Old Gold was introduced by the Kimball Company of Rochester in 1885. It was then a branch of American Tobacco Co. and was acquired by Lorillard in 1927.
