of Zachary Taylor !

(ZACHARY TAYLOR).
Autograph Letter Signed, “G Linen,” a Scottish portrait artist who agreed to paint Zachary Taylor, July 25, 1849, Washington, D.C., 10” x 7.75”, 2 pages with integral mailing leaf, Choice Very Fine. Linen writes to a Lewis P. Clover in New York, remarking about portrait sessions with Gen. Taylor, in part: “Dear Sir I believe I promised to write to let you know how I got along with the portrait of Gen. Taylor after your departure. I had four sittings from him but he didn’t sit well and the weather was so hot and he so sleepy that I did not think the likeness so good as I could easily make it and I got him to give me another sitting and the weather got much cooler, and I made him stand up part of the time to keep him alive....” Letter with normal folds and minor wear, postmarks and wax seal remnants on mailing leaf. Fabulous content!
