PAUL REVERE, Famous American Patriot who made the 'Midnight Ride' to warn the Colonists of the British Invasion, Silversmith, Coppersmith, and Engraver.
Manuscript Document, signed 'Paul Revere,' January 6, 1791, County of Suffolk, Massachusetts, 3 pages, 7.5' x 5.75,' Fine condition. A petition by George French to become an Innkeeper. The first page has the following interesting content:

'That your petitioner being lame & incapable of supporting himself by his trade begs leave for the approbation of your Honors, to license in letting him as an Innholder at his house...'

Signed at the bottom by George French. The second page is an approval of Mr. French by the Selectmen of Boston as an Innholder, and signed at the bottom by William Cooper, 'By Order of the Selectmen'. The third page is an attestation by a number of people, including Revere, to the character of French.

'We the subscribers, being acquainted with Mr. George French beg leave to recommend him to the Hon. Gentlemen and Selectmen as a person of sober life & conversation & one who is qualifyed for keeping a tavern.'

Signed by Jos. Russell, Benj. Larkins, Sam Harris, John Boit, Edward Proctor, Jos. Henderson, Alexander Hadgdon, John Avery, Jr., John Brazer, Samuel Clap, Paul Revere, Benjamin Austin, Jr., and Josiah Volk. All of the pages have been silked to prevent further wear and/or separation at the folds. All of the writing is completely legible despite wear at the folds, some soiling and a missing portion at the center of the top edge. The third page has been separated from the first and second and is framed separately. A wonderful document, with one of the most popular and eagerly sought after American signatures. In addition, considerable expense was made to properly house and display this document (see photo). A superb historical item.
