ANONYMOUS
213. Leninist Dirigibles.
21 1/8 x 32 1/4 in./51 x 81.8 cm
Lithography A. Limanski, Krasnodar
Cond B+/Slight tears at folds
Mention the word "zeppelins” and the images most likely to pop into people’s minds would be that of an exploding Hindenberg or a promotional blimp hovering above a sporting event. This poster, however, blows away those visions like last week’s paper airplanes. The potent iconoclasm of this uncredited Soviet design for a Leninist airship squadron from the Krasnodar council of Passenger Aviation is so inspirationally forward-minded that its Communist overtones matter little in comparison to its industrial exuberance. Granted, there’s the typical political posturing of the time involving labor, defense and strength through numbers, but there’s a textual inclusion not frequently seen on posters of any affiliation: At the top left, we are informed that a copy of this work can be had for sixty kopecks.
