Autographs
Lincoln Appoints a Surgeon

ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
Military Commission Signed, 'Abraham Lincoln' as President, April 5, 1864, Washington, DC, 14.75' x 18.5' (framed to an overall size of 22.75' x 26.5'), Very Fine. Here Lincoln appoints J.J. Schultze to the position of 'Surgeon of Volunteers.' LincolnÕs signature is full, with 'Abraham' spelled out in full, which is the preferred premium way of collecting a Lincoln document.
The overall appearance of this document is excellent, the signature is crisp and clear, the original seal is intact, and the modern framing is beautiful. Two trivial marginal tears appear, one in the upper right and another on the left edge. A light horizontal fold goes through LincolnÕs signature with virtually no impact.
LincolnÕs signature is one of the most popular and desirable of any ever scribbled on paper and they are appearing on the market less and less frequently. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain an nice-looking example at a fair price.
