<b>Maps</b><hr><b>1806, A MAP of the Country which was the scene of operations of THE NORTHERN ARMY including the WILDERNESS through which General Arnold marched to attack QUEBEC,' engraved for John MarshallÕs 'The Life of Washington' and published by Richard Phillips, Choice Extremely Fine.</b>
This map was one of several showing the Revolutionary War, and often the only maps available soon after the war was ended. This map is from the 1st English Edition, said to be the best edition printed with maps far superior to the America Edition. A later set printed in 1832 had much smaller maps. Marshall, John; The Life of George Washington, Commander in Chief of the American Forces...and First President of the United States...Philadelphia: C.P. Wayne, 1805-1807 (five volumes accompanied by original atlas). The image is 8.5" x 10" on a sheet 9.5" x 10.5.' Excellent condition, the only possible fault is the short lower imprint cuts through the date. Imprinted at the lower right: Neele sc Strand, which is Samuel Neele, map engraver from London. The Kennebesh[sic] River north through un-named mountains and then down the Chandiere River is the route shown to be taken by Benedict Arnold on his attach to Quebec.
