GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) - Stuart Ziff Collection: Stay Puft Stretching Mechanical Head Prototype - A Stay Puft Marshmallow Man stretching mechanical head prototype from Ivan Reitman's fantasy-comedy film Ghostbusters. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man ghost attacked the Ghostbusters after a failed attempt to stop Gozer.

This lot comes from the collection of Ghost Shop creature effects supervisor Stuart Ziff. It consists of a foam head skin of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man stretching over a fiberglass base. This unused piece was intended to show Stay Puft "melting" while being hit by charged particle beams from the Ghostbusters' neutrona wands, and includes a mechanism to stretch the mouth. This prototype also features a welded metal frame that allowed the head to stay in place when mounted. This lot exhibits discoloration from age. Dimensions: 18" x 12" x 12" (45.75 cm x 30.5 cm x 30.5 cm)

Contains mechanical components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.

This lot comes from the collection of effects pioneer Stuart Ziff. Upon moving to Edlund's Entertainment Effects Group (later renamed Boss Film Studios) in 1983, Ziff headed the 50-person "Ghost Shop" responsible for the groundbreaking demonic special effects in Ivan Reitman's comedy classic Ghostbusters. Numerous ghosts and spectral phenomena created for the picture, including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man's costume, immediately landed in the American pop culture lexicon, where they've remained for nearly four decades. Propstore is proud to offer never-beforeseen production materials from Stuart Ziff's pioneering work on Ghostbusters, alongside other one-of-a-kind memorabilia from his 40-plus-year career as a Hollywood pioneer.
