Seeing as his specialty was hunting scenes–he would go on to create a number of illustrations for Field & Stream–it’s no surprise to see that Watson felt that even The Truth might need a musket from time to time. Recreation was founded in 1894 by G. O. Shields; it was discontinued in 1912. "Watson provided a series a twelve posters for Recreation in 1896, each depicting a different outdoor sport. Designed in a silhouette style and sparked with refreshing humor, Watson’s energetic sportsman and his faithful dachshund pursue the sports of the season . . . The posters were available from the magazine’s offices at five cents apiece” (The Poster, March 1896, p. 40).
