TRUTH
154. Truth/X-Mas ‘96.
Artist: Ernest Haskell (1876-1925)
14 x 20 in./35.5 x 51 cm
Cond A/P.
Ref: Lauder, 96; Margolin, p. 63
The Truth be told, this utterly coordinated ski maven makes for an alluringly crisp–albeit cinched–calling card for the magazine’s Christmas installment. Born in Woodstock, Connecticut, Haskell studied in Paris, where he was greatly influenced by Whistler. He designed posters for many publications, including New York World, The Critic and provided illustrations for Harper’s as well.
