The Truth, a lively, enterprising magazine, started in 1881 in New York as a weekly; in 1899 it became a monthly at 25 cents an issue with a greater emphasis on fashion and the arts. The two pictured posters–Henry Mayer’s coquettish sorceress and G. Wright’s world-as-roguish-Humpty-Dumpty–are quite in line with the magazine’s reputation. The third poster (not shown), with Jay Hambridge’s portraits of McKinley and Bryan, shows that a frivolous publication, from time to time, was capable of handling a more serious topic.
