Americana
1884 Base Ball Card Game

1884 'Baseball' Card Deck by the Lawson Card Co. of Boston, MA.
36 game cards, plus two instruction cards, plus a small booklet explaining the rules of the game. Patented September 16, 1884. The deck is complete and in excellent condition; the outer box is Very Fine or so, with nice graphics but worn and rubbed on the outer corners and edges, the top flap present but separated. The cards come with as variety of colored graphics, including images of an umpire, a catcher, a base man, and a 'striker' (todayÕs 'hitter'). The game of baseball became such a popular American past-time that 'base ball' card parties became the rage (according to the booklet, the base ball game supplanted the wildly popular game of Whist)! A wonderful deck with an inredibly desirable theme.
