Two silk ribbons honoring General William Henry Harrison:
1. Sullivan/Fischer WHH-M6(a), c. 1841, Silk Mourning Ribbon, 8.5' x 3,' Choice Mint condition 'Gen. William Henry Harrison / Born at Berkley, Virginia, Feby. 9, 1773 / Inaugurated President of the United States March 14, 1841 / Died April 4th, 1841, Aged 68 Years, 1 Mo. 26 days / This melancholy occasion, solemnized at New York / April 10, 1841.' Engravings include a fire 'truck' and a portrait of Harrison beneath a heraldic eagle carrying a banner titled, 'Our Nation Mourns a Hero Gone.' This version features a lengthy obituary and biography of Harrison on the reverse. A beautiful ribbon in nearly perfect condition.
2. Unlisted in Sullivan-Fischer but similar to WHH-M4. 6.75' x 3.' Black on white silk. A portrait of Harrison appears in a black rectangle at the top of the ribbon. Below is 'GENL. WM. H. HARRISON / LATE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES / BORN AT BERKLEY, CHARLES CITY CO. VA. / FEBÕY 9, 1773 / DIED AT WASHINGTON CITY, D.C. / APRIL 4, 1841 / 'SIR - I WISH YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE / TRUE PRINCIPLES OF THE GOVERNMENT. I WISH / THEM CARRIED OUT. I ASK NOTHING MORE.' / LAST WORDS OF PRESIDENT HARRISON.'
Both ribbons have been framed professionally and double matted with a black background under glass in an ornate 16.75' x 15' wooden frame.
