The Democratic Party Ticket: Cass & Butler</b>

<b>1848 Nathaniel Currier Print: 'LEWIS CASS & WM. O. BUTLER... GRAND, NATIONAL, DEMOCRATIC BANNER,' NY, Choice Extremely Fine.</b>
Impressive handcolored lithographic image, 12.75' x 8.5,' matted to 18' x 13.5.' Featuring oval bust portraits of Lewis Cass in black jacket and bow tie (running for President on the Democratic Party Ticket), and William Butler in uniform (running for Vice President). Very patriotic imagery throughout this print, which is highlighted in muted colors: red, gold, and blue, printed on heavy evenly toned light tan paper. The very attractive lithograph, features two Democratic Party candidates who lost the election to Zachary Taylor and Millard FillmoreÑwho ran as the 'PeopleÕs Candidate' and the 'Whig' Party Candidate, respectively. A rare and valuable political print of two politicians, whose loss set the stage for the nationÕs spiral towards the Civil War. TaylorÕs hell-fire Presidency and FillmoreÕs mediocre term as President both set the stage for the rise of the Republican Party and the impending clash between the North and the South. An important, historical rarity.
