Although we could not find any referential evidence to unquestionably connect this Scribner’s poster with the Athens’ Olympics of 1896, the circumstantial connection appears obvious. First off, Scribner’s April 1896 issue carried an Olympic feature as its headlining story (see PAI-XXIV, 29); this certainly could have advertised that installment of the magazine with its obvious torch-bearing sculpted classicism.
