From Ohio: '...we favor an immediate termination of the present war and A Separation of the Sections, because the North has failed...to sustain her right of conquest...' And from Copperhead leader Vallandigham: '...In This Most Unholy and Unconstitutional Crusade Against the South...My Most Cordial Sympathies Are Wholly With Her.' Patriotic statements from General John A. Logan, General Milroy, and various soldiers are quoted in rebuttal, concluding, '...Let the ballot-box show that the soldiers can vote for those who voted for them, and that the party who refused to let soldiers in the army vote are not worthy of their ballots now.'
