Bearing stamp of the Keystone View Company of St. Louis and copyrighted in 1899 by B.L. Langley. 7' by 3 1/2'. With the printed legend, 'Admiral Dewey Leaving the Grand Stand - Presentation of the Sword, Washington. D.C., Oct. 3, 1899.' Choice Extremely Fine.

As Commodore in the Spanish-American War, Dewey defeated the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay without losing a man. He returned to a hero's welcome, and by act of Congress was made Admiral of the Navy in 1899 - a rank created especially for him and the highest ever held by an American naval officer. Congress also directed the Secretary of the Navy to present a sword of honor to Dewey - and that ceremony is what is captured here.
