Lot 140 - 1883 Nickel Three Cents PCGS PR66
1883 Nickel Three Cents. Satiny, lustrous devices display pale nickel-gray iridescence on the obverse and ride atop the reflective field like a boat gently rocking on a glassy smooth ocean.

1883 is another historic year in the American saga, for it witnessed the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. One of the great engineering feats of the late 19th century was the building of the Brooklyn Bridge. The success of the venture was, in large measure, due to the Roebling brothers who made the gigantic cables that held up the roadway. One of them died in the construction work. Some time after it was opened in 1883, someone on the span suddenly shouted that it was falling and several persons were killed in the wild melee that followed.
