Columbian Centinel, Volume XXV, Number 28, whole number 2076, Boston, Saturday, June 11, 1796, carrying an account headed 'Congress of the United States' and datelined 'Philadelphia, June 1', 4 pages, 11.75' x 18.25.'. Choice; partially separated at the horizontal fold, and although attached at the vertical, intermittently missing paper. In part: 'The Bill admitting the State of Tennessee into the Union, has passed both branches. By this act. the southern influence gains an accession of two Senators, and one Representative; and three votes in the election of President. The Senate objected to the admission on the ground of informality in the proceeding - the State having made its own census, established its boundaries, etc. & proposed that it should be laid out...under the authority of the U.S. - The House adhered to their Resolution...The Senate finally receded, and the Bill passed...'
