<b>Miscellaneous Coins</b><hr><b>c. 1854 'The Coin Chart Manual'</b>

<b>c. 1854, 'THE COIN CHART MANUAL, Supplement to ThompsonÕs Bank Note and Commercial Reporter,' New York, NY, About Fine.</b>
10' x 6.75,' 56 pages, plus outer covers. Nice and clean throughout, but the covers are chipped along the edges and corners and three pieces of old Scotch tape hold the separated covers together at the spine. This interesting booklet consists mainly of line drawings of world coins current at the time, including over a page of U.S. Silver Coins. All of the coins are valued relative to the U.S. Dollar. The most modern coin seen in the illustrations is an 1854 Three Dollars Gold Piece. This was not a collectorÕs catalogue of World Coins, it was an extremely important tool for merchants and banks who dealt with a plethora of foreign gold and silver issues, most of which were legal tender at the time. Of particular interest to U.S. collectors is the drawing of the 1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling, valued at 16 Cents. This indicates that such pieces may have still been in circulation even at this late date. The back of the book has several facsimile illustrations of obsolete bank notes.
