FRANCIS HOPKINSON, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and WILLIAM BINGHAM, Founder of the Bank of America.
Continental Loan Office Sight Draft, as Treasurer of Loans for the United States, March 8, 1779, 4' x 8', Choice Crisp New condition, tiny corner fold at bottom right. Exchange draft in the amount of 60 dollars, payable with interest to John Wharton, drawn on the American Commissioner at Paris. Countersigned by Thomas Smith, Commissioner of the Continental Loan-Office in the State of Pennsylvania. Signed endorsement by John Wharton on the reverse. Printed in red and black ink. This is the third of four bills, the first two presumed lost. Inscribed on the reverse in French in the hand of and signed by William Bingham, a valuable added bonus and a nice combination of two important financiers.

John Wharton was a member of the Continental Navy Board in 1778 to 1780 and built two ships, the 'Experiment' and the 'Washington' for the Pennsylvania navy.
