KING OF THE GENIIS (1973) - Hand-drawn Ray Harryhausen Concept Sketch of Charging Styracosaurus

A concept sketch, hand-drawn circa 1969-70, showing a charging Styracosaurus from the unrealised film King of the Geniis, in which legendary sailor Sinbad was to visit a forgotten land inhabited by dinosaurs.

This is one of only a handful of sketches made by Harryhausen for the project, and shows the prehistoric creature speeding towards a fleeing group of people. The drawing is rendered in pencil on paper and is highly detailed. The lot exhibits smudging, marks along the top edge and a small rip down the right side. Dimensions: 40.5 cm x 50.5 cm (16" x 19 3/4")

Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Buyer's Guide.

Literature:

The final key art version of a similar image of the Styracosaurus attack features on page 293 of Ray Harryhausen: An Animated Life by Ray Harryhausen and Tony Dalton, published by Aurum.
