Medals
Massive Zachary Taylor Medal

1848 Zachary Taylor Medal, struck in red-mahogany bronze from original dies at the United States Mint, Gem Uncirculated
89.5 mm in diameter. Julian MI-24, struck at the United States Mint. Trivial cabinet friction on the highest points of TaylorÕs hair. Otherwise, the surfaces are perfect and unimpaired. Obv: Naked bust of Zachary Taylor, 'MAJOR GENERAL ZACHARY TAYLOR' above, 'RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS MAY 9, 1848' and wreath below. Rev: Two rattlesnakes joined at the heads and tails, encircling a battle scene, 'BUENA VISTA FEB. 22 & 23. 1847' above, wreath below. This is one of the largest medals ever produced by the Mint and the quality of the die work is generally considered to be superior because it was produced by an artist (Charles Cushing Wright) outside the Mint. Rare - only the fourth example weÕve ever offered.
