Fossils and Related
Rare Fish Swallowing Another Fish, Fossil from Green River, Wyoming.
Rarely are fossils found that indicate hoe the animal died. This 3.75” Mioplosus died trying to swallow a 2” Knightia more than 50 million years ago in the Green River Formation of Lincoln County, Wyoming. This rare moment in time is known as asperation. Talk about your eyes being bigger than your stomach, a 3.75” fish trying to swallow another fish more than half its size! The 6”x 5.5” slab is mounted in a Ryker mount. All the fins and some of the minute detail are clearly visable, including a clear outline of the skull of the Mioplosus as it swallows the smaller Knight, of which 1.5” is still hanging out of its mouth.
