Lot 1213: Viper Fish and Lobster Fossil
Fossils and Related
Rare Museum Quality viper Fish and Lobster on Same Slab, 100 Million Years Old.
This aesthetically attractive oval slab contains two perfectly preserved fossils. First, there is a 6.5” long, magnificent Viper fish, Europholis, complete with all its fins and a mouthful of nasty looking, sharp teeth. Visual proof of its predatory nature. This unusual fish is an orange-brown color on a creamy limestone matrix, a signature of these 100 million year old fossils from Hakel, Lebanon. What makes this fossil doubly desirable is a second fossil of a 3.25” Lobster, Homarus. The lobster is preserved with its claws, legs, 3” long antenae and even its eyes. The detail of both these fossils is amazing for being this old. This would be a highlight of most fossil collections.
