1787 NJ Copper, Small Planchet, Plain Shield, Maris 46-e, PCGS graded VF-25.
This pleasing example features nice glossy, smooth surfaces and a delightful, medium brown color. Like most 46-e NJ Coppers, this one shows the typical clash marks and die bulging on the obverse, all of which resulted in weakness in the designs, and should not be attributed to wear. The reverse has one small natural edge flaw just above the first U of UNUM and a trivial spot near the bottom of the shield. Overall, this premium quality coin looks every bit as nice as some of the Certified EF and AU examples that have appeared on the market in recent years. Undergraded?
