Autographs
Rare 'U.S. Grant' ShipÕs Paper For A Whaling Voyage

ULYSSES S. GRANT.
Partly-printed Document Signed 'U.S. Grant' as President, September 25, 1875, Washington, D.C., 17' x 22', Very Fine. A four-language shipÕs paper issued to Amos A. Chase, master of the ship 'Jireh Perry... lying at present in the port of New Bedford bound for Indian Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores and Utensils for a Whaling voyage.' Co-signed by Hamilton Fish as Secretary of State. Some repairs to folds, edges have been slightly trimmed, and the presidential seal is partially discolored to gray and white. Otherwise attractive, with a bold signature by Grant. Presidential, four-language shipÕs papers are rare; a four-language shipÕs paper for a whaling voyage is extremely rare.
