Partly printed Document, 5” x 7.8,” completed in manuscript, and mounted on display sheet, 11.5” x 10.” This pay order for “David Gilmore” $75 as an “Elector for President and Vice President of the United States of America.” Signed by “S.McKean” and by W.T. Franklin, the grandson of Benjamin Franklin. The 1832 election, between Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay, was the first time that national political conventions chose presidential candidates. A rare example of the Electoral College paying an elector. Cut cancelled twice with cross design. Receipt signed on verso by David Gilmore.
