Advertising Notes
Pittsburgh, PA, J.M. Kier-KierÕs Rock Oil-The Bank of the Allegheny River, '400' Ad Note, Fine or.
Vlack 4100. One of the more fascinating ad note issues we have seen and the first we have sold. This fasinating piece is dated 1852 and the '400' refers to a drilling level at which a spring was discovered that became this medical elixer. They were only boring for salt water (so they say!), but this great product was found. As an ad note, it is ornate with vignette at the top showing the drilling derricks, at the left is Hope with anchor with 'Petroleum' on the shield and at the right is angel with bottles of the elixer.A great variety of topics and historically important. Fine condition, but the top corner is nicked and there some small edge holes.
