Lot 1116 - 1804 $2.50 Capped Bust. 14 stars on reverse PCGS AU50
1804 $2.50 Capped Bust. 14 stars on reverse. Robert Scot's capped bust, heraldic Eagle design, introduced in 1796, continued in use until 1807. The 1804 issue is distinguished by two reverses, this piece having the unusual 14-star count above the eagle.

The 1804 was produced to the extent of just 3,327 pieces. Most of these coins are from the Breen-1 die marriage, with the result that the 14-Star Reverse variety is the one to choose if you wish to own an 1804-dated quarter eagle. In actuality, the 1804 14-Star is a scarce issue with perhaps just 125 examples extant in all grades. The present coin is a lustrous, generally well struck example with splendid eye-appeal. Here and there magnification reveals a few circulation hairlines and marks, but the luster still retained can be found on both sides around the stars, letters, and main devices. (#7652)
