Obsolete Currency
Colorful Coin Vignetted Albany Note

Albany, NY, The Bank of Albany, $5, Fine to Very Fine.
Haxby NY-30 Unlisted. One of the most distinctive early New York issues. It is one of the earliest American coin vignetted notes with five Bust Dollar obverses at the left. The end text in small print has 'Five Federal Dollars'. At the left is a vignette of Agriculture printed in red. We have never seen this type in genuine form except as a solitary proof sheet that was sold a few years back. These counterfeits are among the most desirable from the early note field and this example is dated 1813. The corners are bit rounded, but we find it hard to call this less than Fine for the type.
