Lot 0715 1838 Liberty Seated H10C. Stars, No Drapery NG
The Philadelphia Mint in 1838 added stars to Gobrecht's "starless" motif of 1837 and continuing through November 1840, created the familiar (and short-lived) "no drapery" Type. It was produced in only three calendar years. The first year 1838 enjoys large collector interest which we suspect arises from the constant availability in nice frosty Mint condition coins like the present specimen. For the sort of collector who wants to add a superior bit of Americana to his or her coin collection, this attractively toned Gem Mint State 65 might be in your future. Both sides are naturally toned; both sides enjoy basking in the comfort of full frosty originality. While this isn't the single finest-graded 1838 No Drapery half dime, it is certain to please anyone who studies it for a few minutes and, as inevitably happens, falls in love with it.
