Lot 0683 1855 Silver 3C NGC MS64
Desirable Type 2 issue and one that also happens to have the lowest mintage in the 1854-58 design: 139,000. This is an especially frosty coin whose choice quality and obvious originality should attract notice. Nice original dusky gold and gray mottled toning over lustrous surfaces. On old obverse fingerprint is visible.

This smallest of United States silver coins was authorized by Congress March 3, 1851. The first issues of 1851-53 were struck at an alloy standard of .750 fine (75% silver); later issues, starting with 1854, are from normal 90% silver, 10% copper alloy of the other standard silver coins then in use.
