Los Angeles,CA - May 4, 1902 - Out for a Sunday Excursion Photograph :
This photo by Vincent shows a large group of people out for a Sunday ride. Photo measures 9 1/2' by 7 1/2." Mounted 10" by 7 3/4." It's mounting seems to have been cut because all the edges are rough and small. The photograph's edges are also nicked and the lower left corner has a small tear that exposes the mounting behind. It's focus is good as is it's contrast. Written on the back of the mounting is "Alameda St./in script on cut away/Mr. H. Keay 232 Alameda St." The most unique item on the back of the mounting is the photographer's advertisement. It seems to be an extra large business card in white and sienna colors. The background has a self portrait of the photographer superimposed into a camera. He is a nice looking young man whose dark hair is parted down the middle. Written in italic script is "Vincent," his name. Other details included in the ad are "Photographs ANY thing, time, where, GROUPS, LARGE VIEWS, and INTERIOR WORK A SPECIALTY/Copying, Enlarging and Commercial Work of all Kinds/208 1/2 South Spring St./Los Angeles, Cal./Phone Green 114/Kodak Finishing." The edges of the business card are flaking away. There is a large liquid stain on the mounting in the bottom left corner. The photo itself does not give viewers a place other than Los Angeles. The folks are all dressed in their Sunday best. Most of the women are dressed in shirtwaists, a very popular clothing item of the time. Many of the men have on bowler hats or straw hats, also popular attire for the time period. Among all the adults, there is a lone blonde child sitting in the back of the carriage.
