English aristocrat (1866-1923) and amateur Egyptologist best known as the financier of Howard Carter’s excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb. Partial ALS signed vertically “G. H.,” six pages on three sheets (two adjoined), 4.5 x 7, Pixton Park letterhead, no date. Final six pages of a letter to an unknown recipient. In part: “I want my uniform to be sent to Vienna without delay & by the shortest route so that it may be here no later than Dec. 10…Has the print of George Washington, which I intended to give to the Embassy, been handed over to the Ambassador? If not please have this done so that he can hang it where he thinks fit. You might word it as the property of the Embassy. I am just recovering from a long spell of flu-cold-rheumatism and have not had the chance to enjoy my holiday very much…You can tell Radford I have highly recommended him as a photographer to a friend of mine who is secretary to the Royal Commission for Ancient Monuments & who told me he thought they might require a photographer for their work. I don’t know if anything will come of it, but if the commission does appoint a special photographer at a decent salary, I think Radford would do well to take it…I have given up shooting for humanitarian reasons because I don’t like wounding beasts or birds but the good relation may not last.” In fine condition, with rough right edge to signed page. Just the third Carnavon item we have offered.
