Long bladed spear point Bowie knife with patriotic American Eagle on German silver cross guard with on each side of blade fancy pinned ivory grip, German silver mountings, original scabbard, blade marked non-XLL with W. Broadhurst, Sheffield marked on blade and ricasso. The knife measures approximately 16 ½” overall with 12” blade and a 5”false edge at the top. This exact knife is pictured on page 110 of “The Bowie Knife” by Norm Flayderman and originally in this iconic author and expert’s collection and also pictured in “Steel Canvas” by R.L. Wilson on page 206. The knife retains its original scabbard which is German silver mounted and in good condition with just some minor aging to the leather. This scabbard is made only for this knife as it marries to the cross guard. The grip scales are in very good condition with mellow aging and one chip to the rear area on reverse side. The German silver mountings show an even patina. The blade shows some minor pitting and light cleaning and is of thick stock that is well-made. The condition is generally very good and almost its full original dimensions with just some minor aging, light cleaning and normal use. A very unusual and long bladed knife from about the Civil War era or slightly earlier with a highly unusual spread eagle on the cross guard. It would be hard to improve upon the provenance and pictorial history. Est.: $10,000 -$20,000.
