Long Hudson Valley Flintlock Fowling Piece

This 18th century full length stock flowing piece has a lock plate that is marked "I/WILLIAMS". The lock plate has a double line border and the hammer is plain. Three British proofs are stamped on the left side of the barrel at the breech. It is equipped with a blade front sight and a groove for a rear sight. The two screw raised side plate is formed from brass in a scroll pattern. The trigger guard, side plate, ramrod pipe and buttplate are brass. The full length tiger maple pinned stock has simple incised lines, swelled area at the rear of the ramrod channel and a brass thumb escutcheon with a simple engraved pattern.

Very good. The fowler has a mottled brown-gray patina showing scattered minor pitting. The brass has a smooth dark patina. The stock is very good with small wood filled repairs on the forearm, a wooden pin repair at the wrist and some minor dings and scratches. The hammer is a replacement. Mechanically fine. A solid example of a fowling piece of the Hudson Valley that was around for the French and Indian War or the American War of Independence.
